Outreach is at the heart of our community

"God does not love some ideal person, but rather human beings just as we are; not some ideal world, but rather the real world." Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Through our 4 x monthly choice food pantry at St. Andrew, holiday meals at St. James, Painesville, and summer on-site CSA, as well as our ongoing sanctuary work, we at St. Andrew seek to live into our baptismal covenant which calls us "to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbors as yourselves," and "to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being."
In addition to in-house outreach, St. Andrew opens its doors to numerous AA/NA groups, Scouts, Zumba/Yoga groups, and other non-profit community groups in need of space to meet.
Together, we have learned  that it takes a lifetime of love and hospitality to follow the Way of Christ.

Working on a Dream

The Jubilee Food Sharing Collaborative

Picture
Picture
The Jubilee Food Sharing Collaborative is our dream of radical love in community that we have begun to make real in summer 2020. The collaborative is anchored by our Choice Food Pantry (read about it, below). It will ultimately include the pantry, a Jubilee raised-bed garden and orchard to be created on St. Andrew parish grounds, and a cooking collaborative based in the St. Andrew parish kitchen.  The produce we grow together will be shared through the food pantry and otherwise given away. We made a valiant start to the Jubilee Garden this summer by the planting  of our first eight raised beds with peppers, eggplant, kale, tomatoes, peppers, beans, and pumpkins-this despite the pandemic and requisite social distancing required to keep us all safe.

Through the Jubilee Food  Pantry Collaborative we will expand our ability to share food with one another, grow relationship with ecumenical project volunteers, food pantry guests, and neighborhood volunteers/friends. We will learn together how to sustain ourselves, each other, and the planet through the cultivation, cooking, and sharing of nourishing food.  In so doing St. Andrew will manifest Christ's New Creation of Love in our little corner of the universe, one day at a time, by the way we organize, actualize, ritualize, and reflect upon the collaborative work we do, together.

News Flash! As of October 2021, the Choice Pantry serves
residents of Lake, Geauga, and now Cuyahoga County too! Join Us!

Want to join us as a garden volunteer, advisory committee member, or friend of the garden? All are welcome and you don't have to be a parish member to participate. Stay tuned for updates! Share your ideas! Contact Rev. Lisa to learn how we can grow this garden together!
           Choice Pantry Pandemic Update

The Choice Pantry is currently taking orders from our pantry guests at their cars, shopping for them, and then delivering their groceries to their cars in order to minimize the risk of contagion from the COVID. We will return to in-person shopping as soon as possible.  As always, our goal is to keep everyone safe.  We plan to return to in-person shopping as soon as possible.

We have not yet returned to indoor gathering in our parish hall prior to shopping but we will plan to return                        to sharing food and conversation together before pantry once COVID has fully abated.

God bless our food pantry guests!
God bless our St. Andrew and Advent volunteers!

Peace and good health to all!

About Our Food Pantry
The St. Andrew Food Pantry is run in partnership with Advent Lutheran Church. Our mission is to feed the hungry in Lake and Geauga Counties.  We differ from many area food pantries because we are a "choice" pantry. Our neighbors who come for food shop our shelves with a shopper volunteer, choosing the food (within amount guidelines) that they will use and eat. So, they may choose what cereal to take, what canned goods they will eat, and what fresh produce they want. More importantly, we build relationship with those who come to shop, learning about their families, struggles, jobs, and lives. They become more than clients at a food pantry - but are neighbors that we offer both food and friendship. If you are a resident of Lake or Geauga County and need food, you are welcome at the St. Andrew Food Pantry.
