Remembering Bob Carpenter

Basil Wolfe remembered longtime parishioner Bob Carpenter on Sunday, May 29th:

"If It Is God's Will, God Will Provide"

I stand here this morning to acknowledge some of the contributions of a long time member of St. Andrew, Bob Carpenter, who died recently.  When Kay and I arrived at the church in 1971, Bob was already serving as Sr. Warden.  I remember that Bob was so excited to report at the annual meeting that it was the first time that our budget had reached $50,000.  Through the years he served in many leadership and services roles:  Vestry, Sr. Warden, Lay Reader, Christ Renews His Parish, Stephen Ministry, Search Committee Chair, and many more.  He was last on the Vestry just over three years ago.

One of Bob’s key beliefs was that if it was God’s will, God would provide:  funds to meet financial needs or servants to meet programming needs.  An early need was for the church to purchase a new organ.  Bill Worman, our first Rector, was an accomplished organist. Bill provided St. Andrew with its first organ which he built from a kit.  It needed to be replaced.  Bob, a music enthusiast himself, was instrumental in the campaign to purchase a new church organ, always believing that it was God’s Will and God would provide and God did.  That is the organ we are currently using.  I think that Bob appreciated that the Church could enjoy good music and that Bill could enjoy performing many organ concerts for St. Andrew and the community to the glory of God.

Claire has requested memorials to be made to St. Philips Episcopal Church, 785 Beulah Highway, Beulah, Michigan 49617 but she would be very pleased if memorials at St. Andrew would be added to the Organ Repair Fund.
Please lift up prayers of thanksgiving for the life of one of God’s servants, and ask God to comfort Claire and Bob’s family.
